Sedona Sunset

This piece was painted in about 25 minutes at sunset in Sedona, Arizona. I'll be doing a larger studio piece from this study. The light was spectacular on the mesa and on the sloped hill in the middle ground...absolutely magical...and challenging to capture in such a short time. I didn't even take time to draw this out first...just started laying in the shapes of color and value, beginning with the shadows first as they were changing so quickly.
